Course Description
- The course introduces students to basic concepts, approaches, and methods in the disciplines that comprise the Social Sciences and Applied Social Sciences.
- It highlights the intersections between the social science disciplines and the applied social sciences while focusing on social development concerns.
Course Details
- Elective: Academic
- Prerequisite: None
- Time Allotment: 80 hours for one semester, 4 hours per week
- Schedule: First Semester/Second Semester
Quarter 1: The Social Sciences as the Study of Society
Content Standard
- Learners demonstrate an understanding of the historical development, key concepts, and approaches in the Social Sciences, including major theories, enabling them to analyze and explain:
- Human behavior
- Social structures
- Cultural dynamics within diverse societal contexts
Performance Standard
- Learners apply Social Science disciplines in explaining a social issue using a multimedia presentation, infographic, podcast, or other relevant presentation scheme.

Differentiate the nature and functions of Social Science disciplines from the natural sciences and humanities

Quarter 2: Behavioral and the Applied Social Sciences
Content Standard
- Learners demonstrate an understanding of the behavioral and the applied social sciences, recognizing the roles of professionals while grasping the functions and impacts of these disciplines in promoting social change and community well-being.
Performance Standard
- Learners consult with a professional from an applied social science discipline (e.g., counseling, social work, criminology, education, communication) to gain insights into their roles and contributions to social change, analyze the discipline’s real-world impact, and synthesize findings into a reflective report or presentation, demonstrating effective communication and ethical awareness.
