LUNGS!!!!!!!!!!!
Tidal volume – volume of air inhaled during a normal breath
Inspiratory reserve volume – maximum volume of air that can be inhaled forcefully after normal exhalation
Expiratory reserve volume – maximum volume of air that can be exhaled forcefully after normal exhalation
Residual volume – volume of air remaining in the lungs after a maximum exhalation. Cannot be exhaled and keeps the alveoli open.
Total lung capacity – Total volume of air in lungs after a maximum inhalation (TLC = TV+IRV+ERV+RV)
Vital Capacity – Maximum volume of air that can be exhaled after maximum inhalation (VC=TV+IRV+ERV)
Inspiratory Capacity – Maximum volume of air that can be inhaled after a normal exhalation (IC = TV+IRV)
Functional Residual Capacity – Volume of air remaining in lungs after a normal exhalation (FRC = ERV + RV). Represents the equilibrium point of the respiratory system.
