Hair Care Considerations

• Cultural Sensitivity: Remain culturally sensitive and appropriate when addressing hair care and styling preferences, which are individualized.

• Assessment: Assess hair and scalp for issues such as dandruff, hair loss, baldness, or infestations (lice, ticks). Provide appropriate medical treatment if necessary.

• Shampoo Caps: Use microwaveable shampoo caps (see Figure 32-5 on page 1111). When heated, they lather and contain built-in conditioner, requiring no rinsing after use. Instructions included for heating time and massage duration.

• Shaving Clients: Determine if clients are using anticoagulants or blood thinners before shaving. Opt for electric razors instead of standard razors to minimize bleeding risks, as standard razors may lead to prolonged bleeding from nicks.

• Beard and Mustache Care: Properly clean clients' beards and mustaches, especially to remove food debris. Assist in maintaining cleanliness in these areas.
