Overview of the Frog Life Cycle
From egg to adult, frogs undergo a dramatic biological transformation known as metamorphosis.
The developmental progression originates in an aquatic environment as eggs, transitions through an aquatic larval stage as tadpoles, progresses to a transitional stage as froglets, and culminates in fully developed adult frogs.
The four sequential stages in the life cycle are:

Four Stages of Developmental Metamorphosis
Stage 1: Egg
Initiation: The life cycle begins in water, where female frogs lay their eggs.
Clustering and Protection: Frog eggs are laid in clusters and are encased and protected by a jelly-like substance.
Embryonic Stage: Within each egg is a tiny embryo, representing the initial foundational step in the formation of a new frog.
Stage 2: Tadpole
Emergence: When the eggs hatch, young baby frogs emerge in a larval form known as tadpoles.

Stage 3: Froglet
Transitional Development: As tadpoles grow, they undergo developmental changes that cause them to look increasingly like adult frogs, at which point they are termed froglets.
Limb Formation: Froglets begin developing legs to prepare for terrestrial movement.
Tail Resorption: The long tail begins to shrink and resorb as the organism becomes less reliant on aquatic living.
Respiratory Transition: Froglets shift from aquatic respiration using gills to air-breathing using lungs.
Stage 4: Adult Frog
Complete Maturation: Biological maturity is reached when the tail is completely reabsorbed and gone, and all four legs are fully formed.
Environmental Adaptation: Adult frogs are fully adapted for life on land, though they continue to spend time in aquatic environments.
Reproductive Cycle: At this stage, mature adult frogs are biologically ready to restart the life cycle by seeking out a mate and laying eggs in water.
