Chemical Equilibrium and Temperature Changes
Reaction Direction with K Values
- If equilibrium constant (K) is much less than 1 (K << 1):
- The reaction favors the reverse direction.
- Effects of Temperature Changes:
- Raising temperature affects direction depending on reaction type (endothermic vs. exothermic).
- Endothermic: forward reaction favored.
- Exothermic: reverse reaction favored.
