Methyl Alcohol Poisoning (Methanol; CH3OH)

Overview

  • Fatal Internal Dose: 60 to 250 ml

  • TLV (Threshold Limit Value) in Air: 200 ppm

Antidote and Treatment (EFH)

  • Administration of Ethyl Alcohol:

    • Reduces toxicity of methanol

    • Inhibits metabolism to formaldehyde or formic acid, protecting retinal cells

  • Other Treatments (FH):

    • Fomepizole

    • Hemodialysis
