Abyss: Bottomless hole, a vast expanse or depth

Autocrat: A person with unlimited influence and authority, usually a negative word

Deference: courteous going along with the opinions or wishes of another, showing respect.

Dissemble: Disguise, pretend

Dogmatic: arbitrarily strongly opinionated in an unwarranted manner.

Heretical: Contrary to church doctrine, accepted beliefs/standards

Indigenous: Native to a certain area

Ingratiate: to make an effort to gain good favor with someone

innate: existing from birth, inborn

Junta: a group of people who join in running a gov. sometimes after a revolution

Orthodox: conforming to established standards, conventional

paradoxical: something that appears false or contradictory but is actually correct

Parochial: limited in the range of scope, narrow, provincial

Propriety: Correct conduct

Quake: To shake from shock or inability

Savory: Appetizing

Sectarian: Member of a sect, a faction w/ extreme beliefs. Narrow-minded

Vindictive: Revengeful, spiteful

Abrogate: Abolish to do away with

Bemuse: To confuse/ bewilder

Defamation: Act of harming or ruining another reputation

Exalt: Glorify/raise in rank

Formidable: Menacing, causing fear or awe

Hypocrite: one who is insincere or deceitful

Licentious: Lacking moral/ sexual restraint

Malevolence: Wishing ill will or evil on someone

Malign: To utter injuriously misleading reports about

Methodical: Proceeding in a regular or systematic order

Partisan: one who exhibits extreme and possible blind allegiance to a group/ cause

Prodigious: extraordinary in bulk, quantity, or degree great in size

Prudent: wise and careful about practical matters

Resurge: To rise again

Trepidation: fear, trembling, agitation

Wily: Cunning, crafty

Adamant: inflexible, immovable

Beguile: deceive, mislead, persuade with charm
