Passé Composé vs. Imperfect Tense
- Functions and Usage (Semaine 5, Mardi, 3 Février 2026):
- Both the passé composé and the imperfect are past tenses, but they cannot be used interchangeably.
- The Imperfect is a descriptive past tense. It indicates an action that began in the past but was not necessarily completed.
- It translates to the English "was" or "were" plus the present participle "-ing," or "used to" and "would."

The Passé Composé: Formation and Regular Verbs
- The passé composé is a compound tense formed from two components:

Questions and Negation in Passé Composé
- Asking Questions (Semaine 10, Mardi, 11 Novembre 2025):
- Intonation: Tu as fini les devoirs?
- Using "Est-ce que": Est-ce que tu as fini les devoirs?
- Inversion: The conjugated auxiliary is inverted with the subject pronoun and joined by a hyphen.
- Example: "As-tu fini les devoirs?"
- Note for 3rd person singular (il/elle): Add a "-t-" between auxiliary and pronoun: "A-t-il fini les devoirs?"
- Negatives: Place "ne/n'" and "pas" around the auxiliary verb.

The Conditional Tense
- Formation (Semaine 13): Formed by taking the Future Stem of the verb and adding Imperfect Endings.
- Endings: -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient.
- Example (Parler): je parlerais, tu parlerais, il parlerait, nous parlerions, vous parleriez, ils parleraient.
- Example (Attendre): j'attendrais, tu attendrais, il attendrait, nous attendrions, vous attendriez, ils attendraient.
- Example (Choisir): je choisirais, tu choisirais, il choisirait, nous choisirions, vous choisiriez, ils choisiraient.

- Si clauses express conditions and follow a definite sequence of tenses:

Prepositions with Names of Places and Countries
The preposition à (Semaine 3, Lundi, 22 Septembre 2025):

- Used with small countries having masculine names: à Cuba, à Madagascar.

The preposition en:
- Used with names of feminine countries or continents. (Most countries ending in silent 'e' are feminine, except le Mexique).
