Sympathetic Nervous System Notes
Peripheral Nervous System Organization
- The peripheral nervous system (PNS) consists of two components:
- Sensory component: Allows perception of the environment.
- Motor component: Controls behavior.
Nervous System Organization
- The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is linked to the central nervous system (CNS) for environmental detection.
- Sensory input travels through the sensory nervous system via afferent nerves to the CNS.
- The motor output is controlled by the remaining part of the PNS
- Somatic motor system: Controls skeletal muscle
- Autonomic nervous system: Controls involuntary responses
Autonomic Nervous System Branches
- Parasympathetic nervous system: Controls the body in rest and relaxation (
