Globalization
It is a process that increases interdependence among countries through economies, political systems, and/or societies on a global scale - in terms of goods, services, capital, information, ideas and people.
The interdependence has led to a re-evaluation of sovereignty, where some government gave up their sovereignty over key issues or international obligations.
Interdepencies: the countries increasingly rely on each other for stuff such as trade and security.
Disadvantages: Causes income inequality, loss of cultural identity, and worker exploitation.
Globalization exacerbates inequality as wealth and resources become concentrated in the hands of a few, particularly developed countries, while developing countries face challenges like job displacement and wage suppression in the race for lower production costs (referring to multinational corporations). This economic imbalance can lead to a widening gap between the rich and the poor, both within countries and between countries.
As countries become more interdependent, cultures start to get loss in the mix. Usually global markets tend to dilute cultural identities, as local traditions, languages, and practices are overshadowed by dominant global brands and lifestyles, leading to cultural homogenization.
Globalization can result in the exploitation of workers, especially in low-wage countries where multinational corporations may prioritize profit over ethical labor practices, often subjecting employees to poor working conditions, long hours, and minimal pay, further entrenching cycles of poverty and disenfranchisement.
