Fiqh of salah

The Nature of Prayer (Salah)

  • The sun was hot and bright during the time of prayer, impacting the timing and experience of Salah.

  • Love for delaying the Ishaq (midday) prayer, emphasizing its significance.

  • Disliking sleep before Ishaq and conversation after it highlights focus on spirituality during this time.

Prayer Timing and Leadership

  • Fajr prayer is significant, with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) leading it, allowing clarity in congregation as men could recognize each other.

  • The timing for daily prayers is critical; the Prophet led prayers before the sun sets, ensuring adherence to prayer times.

Hadith on Physical Postures in Salah

Holding Hands

  • Taqvir: Placing hands parallel to shoulders when beginning the prayer.

  • Importance of proper body posture during prayer, emphasizing a respectful stance.

Bowing Down (Ruku)

  • Hands rest upon knees, back remains bent, demonstrating humility and carefulness in movement.

Standing Upright

  • When raising the head, the requirement is to stand erect, straitening the backbone to reflect alertness in prayer.

Prostration (Sujud)

  • In prostration, arms should not be too spread out or tightly drawn in, ensuring comfort while maintaining respect for prayer.

  • Tips of toes should align towards the qibla, reflecting focus on the sacred direction during Salah.

Comfort in Salah

  • If maintaining certain positions becomes tight, adjustments are allowed.

  • Suggestions for hand positioning: folding hands close or wrapping thumb and pinky around the arm for rest and comfort is acceptable.

  • The best position includes maintaining touch at the wrist with arms in proper position to alleviate any discomfort.

Recitation during Prayers

  • In the first two Rak'ah of the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha followed by two other Surahs is standard practice.

  • On occasion, the Prophet would recite loud enough for companions to hear, enhancing collective spiritual experience.

  • Importance of supplication (dua) during the prayer as it may lead to answered prayers.

Dealing with Environmental Conditions

  • If the ground is not clean, making efforts to maintain cleanliness during prayer is essential, even if it involves adjusting position in less ideal conditions.

  • Closing eyes during certain parts of the prayer is permissible, allowing for greater focus and concentration.

Sitting Position

  • When the Prophet sat during prayer, he placed his left hand properly to ensure correctness in posture and humility.
