Scene 5-Cont’d.

  • Middle Nancy wakes up and looks around-she can see that it is daylight

  • She tells her mom bye, and runs out the door

  • Sandra’s house gets rolled off

  • Middle Nancy runs on from W2, and Deb mets her center stage

  • The girls talk about the latest gossip, and Deb mentions that someone is out sick

    • Nancy tells Deb that her mom has been sick as well

    • She said that she didn’t even hear her come in the night before

  • Deb mentions that her mom told her that she hopes the alcohol doesn’t get to her

  • Middle Nancy is confused

  • Deb mentions that an actress was replaced because of it

  • Middle Nancy says that it is instead d-r-u-g-s, and that her mom would never jeopardize her career because she is too good.

    • Deb retorts with “How would you know? She doesn’t even let you watch.”

    • “My mom is a star.” Middle Nancy sings a brief part of “Life of a Star,” which is interrupted by Mrs. Smith

    • During the song, Sandra is rolled on in the hallway with a nurse at her side. She takes her final breath, and then Mrs. Smith greets the class

  • Mrs. Smith gives the students a journal prompt

  • The class asks questions, and Cynthia & Middle Nancy have a conversation, which prompts Mrs. Smith to tell them to quiet down

  • Someone from the lot walks very quickly with a letter down the hallway and into the classroom

    • He/she hands the note to Mrs. Smith

  • Mrs. Smith reads the letter, & calls Middle Nancy up to her desk

  • The class “oohs”

  • Mrs. Smith asks Middle Nancy if her mom came home last night

  • Middle Nancy explains who her mother is, and the situation she is usually in

  • Mrs. Smith tells Middle Nancy that her mother has passed away, and hands her the letter to read

  • Middle Nancy assumes that it’s a lie

  • Mrs. Smith tells her that someone from the lot is going to come pick her up and take her to the hospital

  • Middle Nancy goes back to her seat to pack up her backpack, and the rest of the class is in slow motion

    • She sings the continued version of “Life of a Star”

  • She exits the classroom

Scene 6

  • Transition music over set change

  • Cedrig runs up the platform stairs to Mick with a letter, who is talking to crew members about what he is envisioning for the next episode

  • Cedrig pulls Mick aside and tells him the news

  • Mick tells Cedrig to call the hospital to stop making up rumors

    • Add: “And tell Sandra I’ll see her tonight. Otherwise her career will be dead.”

  • Cedrig runs down the platform stairs and out

  • Mick sings a song about ratings and about how things must be perfect, otherwise the show cannot continue

    • He wants records, he wants sponsors, he wants stars…he doesn’t have any other ideas, and this one has been working pretty well.

Scene 7

  • Transition music over set change

    • The nurse is talking to a doctor DSC

    • In the SR hallway, you can see the crew member give Middle Nancy a hug, and gives her a signal to go talk to the nurse

    • The music stops

  • Middle Nancy taps on the nurse’s shoulder

  • The nurse turns around and asks who she is

  • The nurse leads Middle Nancy down the SL hallway, and into the wing, then brings her back onstage where her mom is in a hospital bed DSL

    • Middle Nancy stays quiet because she doesn’t know what to say

  • The silence is broken when Middle Nancy sees Sandra, and runs up to her screaming “Mom!”

  • Middle Nancy questions the nurse and the hospital. She thinks that she’s on a set, and that the whole thing is fake

  • The nurse tells Middle Nancy that there were a lot of bad things in her system, that were building up over the years

  • Middle Nancy tells the nurse that she can’t go because of how important she is to the world, to her. She doesn’t have anyone else.

  • Mick & Cedrig run from SL hallway to SR, and into the hospital room

  • The nurse asks who they are

  • Mick & Cedrig respond, telling the nurse that they are the creators of the show, and are confused by their actions

    • Mick commands Cedrig to revive Sandra

    • Mick finally looks over at Middle Nancy and asks who she is

    • Middle Nancy responds with her name, and that she’s Sandra’s daughter

    • Mick & Cedrig look at her sideways, then continue their conversation

  • The nurse tells Mick, Cedrig, and Middle Nancy that she needs to file the report for Sandra, and that they need to say their final words

  • Mick grabs the nurse’s arm and tells her not to file the report

  • The nurse shakes him off and tries to leave again

  • Cedrig runs in front of her and tries to stop her

  • The nurse turns around, and Mick takes the form from off of her clipboard and rips it up

  • While that is happening, Middle Nancy stays at her mother’s side, wishing her awake

  • The nurse tries to yell for someone to kick Mick & Cedrig out, but instead Cedrig covers her mouth, and Mick levels with the nurse.

    • He looks back at Sandra, realizing that she really is dead.

    • He knows the show needs to continue, and needs to have the same star, so he tells Cedrig to offer them the money.

      • Sings a reprise of his song from the previous scene about ratings

    • The nurse turns around, and Cedrig presents her with the money (it’s A LOT)

    • The nurse asks what they are going to plan on doing with the body

    • Mick tells them they’ve got people, and they’ll be over as soon as possible

  • The nurse takes the money, and asks about everyone else that needs to keep their mouths shut

  • Mick assures her that it will be taken care of.

    • In the back hallway, you can see crew members giving doctors and nurses hush money

  • Cedrig asks, “Sir, what about the sirens? People know Sandra went to the hospital last night.”

    • “She fell. Hit her head. That’s why we’ll be out of the show for a while.”

    • Middle Nancy: “That’s what the sirens were?”

  • Mick & Cedrig tell Middle Nancy all of the awful things Sandra was doing.

    • Middle Nancy clutches her mother and starts to cry

  • The nurse tells them to be out soon so that she can clean the room, and leaves

  • Mick and Cedrig tell Middle Nancy she should leave

    • Middle Nancy tells them that she has no where to go

    • She tells them that her dad left when she has young, and the only person she knows is her mom

  • Mick and Cedrig think back to Sandra’s relationships-they realize that Isaiah Walker is Middle Nancy’s father

    • They tell Middle Nancy that she can stay with them at the studio while they call Isaiah. They know he is home from the war, and assume he’s in the same house.

    • Middle Nancy questions if she is really going to meet her dad

    • Mick and Cedrig assure her that he will pick up

  • Middle Nancy looks at her mom one last time and sings a short reprise of “Life of a Star”

  • As she finishes singing, two guys come in and take Sandra’s body away

  • Middle Nancy turns back to Mick & Cedrig, they take her hands, and walk down center, and out of the SR hallway

  • Transition music as they leave

Scene 8

  • Mick leads Cedrig & Middle Nancy up the SR platform stairs

  • Mick & Cedrig show Middle Nancy where they shoot the show

  • Mick tells Cedrig that he is going to inform the crew of what is going on, and requests that Cedrig find Isaiah’s phone number in the files, and call him

    • Cedrig runs down the stairs and into one of the hallways

  • Mick calls the crew to the deck, leaving him and Middle Nancy on the platform

  • Mick lets the crew know about the situation, and tells them that if they don’t keep quiet, he will leave them without jobs

    • During this time, Cedrig is throwing out files that are “not right,” and you can hear the phone ring a couple times

  • The crew questions if they will get a pay raise

    • Mick reluctantly agrees

    • “Isaiah’s house” gets rolled on SR

  • Cedrig is revealed holding a phone in between the hallways

    • The lights dim on the crew members, Mick, & Middle Nancy

  • Cedrig has a conversation with Isaiah Walker on the phone

  • Isaiah cannot believe what he is hearing, thinks it’s a scam, and tries to hang up, but Cedrig stops him

    • Cedrig tells him about the money, Middle Nancy, and how legally, he is her guardian now and needs to come get her

      • We learn that Isaiah is back in New York working at the steel mill because that’s where work is

    • Isaiah initially tells Cedrig no, because he doesn’t know how to raise a child, and doesn’t have a job strong enough to support two people

    • Cedrig says he can help with that, by telling him the studio will quite literally pay him to not tell anyone about Sandra

    • Isaiah thinks…then agrees

    • Cedrig tells him he’ll see him soon, then hangs up

  • Isaiah’s house gets rolled off SR, and Cedrig runs DSC to tell everyone that Isaiah is coming

    • During this, the lights come up, and Mick is answering questions and concerns

  • Middle Nancy can’t believe that she is going to meet her father

  • Mick tells Cedrig to call the cast members and let them know about the offers

    • He tells Cedrig to tell them that they will have a production meeting as soon as they figure out exactly what they are going to do

  • Mick questions to himself what he’s going to do with the show

    • Mick is frustrated, and starts roaming around the set blaming everyone, especially Sandra

    • He walks down the stairs

    • He kicks the camera operator out of his chair, and claims that he needs to see the world through a “new lens,” because he needs an idea.

    • He tells Middle Nancy to pose in front of the camera, and instructs her to walk around the set

    • Mick pushes the camera away, disappointed

  • Cedrig exits SR, and walks through the hallway SR with Isaiah

  • He clicks the camera off, sighs, then tells everyone to go home. He says that he is going to call the network and tell them that the show is going to stop running for the rest of the season so that Sandra can “heal.”

    • He goes back to the hallway SL (his office) to think

    • The crew members start walking away

  • Cedrig enters with Isaiah from the hallway SR DSC

    • Cedrig updates Isaiah on the show, then catches Middle Nancy’s eye

    • Cedrig calls Middle Nancy to come down

  • Middle Nancy walks down the SL platform stairs, and meets Cedrig & Isaiah DSC

    • She greets Isaiah

    • The trio acknowledge the elephant in the room

  • Cedrig tells Middle Nancy that she is going to stay with Isaiah from now on, as he is her legal guardian

  • Isaiah tells Middle Nancy that they will go collect her things from her house, and that they will go back to his house

  • Middle Nancy asks him if he has a television

  • Isaiah says yes, and Middle Nancy agrees to go with him

  • Middle Nancy goes up the platform steps to collect her backpack, and walks back down

    • During that time, Cedrig tells Isaiah what it’s like to be a father. Gives him some quick tips, some guidance

  • Once Middle Nancy has rejoined the trio, Cedrig sends them on their way

    • Isaiah and Middle Nancy walk side by side DSC into the hallway, and Cedrig trails behind

    • Isaiah & Middle Nancy exit SR hallway

    • Transition music is played as they start walking

Scene 9

  • As Isaiah & Middle Nancy enter the SR hallway, Isaiah’s house gets rolled on SR

  • Transition music stops as Isaiah welcomes Middle Nancy into his home

    • Middle Nancy questions what they are going to do about her mom’s house

      • Who’s going to collect her & her mom’s things, and who is going to pay the bills

  • Isaiah tells Middle Nancy that they just won’t pay the bills for a while, until things start to get bad

  • Middle Nancy nods & takes a seat on the couch

  • Isaiah apologizes for the way his house looks

    • Middle Nancy brushes it off and tells him that her house looks about the same

    • She explains that her mom spent her money on the best glam team in town, afterparties, and outfits

  • Isaiah reconnects with Middle Nancy, and tells her that her mom hasn’t changed since he was with her

  • Middle Nancy beckons Isaiah over to the couch, and tells him to tell her about him and her mom

    • A duet is sung between the two of them about Isaiah’s past with Sandra, the radio show, Middle Nancy, and then they both come together on the realization that Sandra stayed Sandra

      • Those lines are sung together

  • Isaiah tells Middle Nancy that she should go to bed, and that she can sleep on the couch for the night until he gets the guest bedroom done up for her

    • Isaiah also tells her that he’s going to go to bed himself

    • He tells her she can turn on the television in case she can’t sleep

    • Isaiah exits through the SR hallway (his bedroom)

  • Middle Nancy gets up from the couch and “clicks through” television channels until she finds a rerun of “Sally’s Surroundings”

    • As she finds “Sally’s Surroundings,” the screen comes down

    • Middle Nancy lays down on the couch, and begins to watch the show

    • A muted version of the show plays on the screen

  • The lights dim on Middle Nancy, and come up on Mick and Cedrig, who are down on the deck trying to figure out ideas for what to do about Sandra

    • Mick tells Cedrig to bring up the footage that he shot of Middle Nancy earlier. That maybe that will spark something

  • Cedrig runs over to the camera, and hits play

    • The projector cuts off “Sally’s Surroundings” and starts to play the footage of Middle Nancy from earlier

    • Mick tells Cedrig, “I told you to find the production footage from today, not two weeks ago!”

    • Cedrig informs Mick that that is the production footage from today

    • Mick: “You mean that’s not Sandra?”

    • Cedrig: “No sir.”

  • Mick thinks, then comes up with an idea to put Middle Nancy in as Sally

    • They would wait until she turns fourteen to shoot, so that she looks a little bit older (which would only be a year)

  • Mick tells Cedrig that they would tell the media that Sandra got hurt, and while she “heals,” production will continue to be on hold.

  • Cedrig & Mick sing a duet going over the game plan

    • They are going to tell the media that Nancy is dead after falling and hitting her head while running after the ambulances in the night

    • Mick: “We’ll tell the press in the morning!”

Scene 10

  • Transition music

  • Mick & Cedrig walk exit SR & walk up the SR platform stairs

    • As you see them enter the platform, paparazzi rushes

Scene 11

  • The screen projects a commercial of Nancy as Sally in “Sally’s Surroundings”

    • It’s the colorized version

    • The commercial specifically states that it is Sandra returning, not Nancy

    • During that, the entr’acte is playing

  • Once the commercial is over, the screen rolls up, revealing Nancy

    • On the screen roll up, the cameras get moved into position, & the cast & crew members assume their positions

  • Mick announces Nancy’s presence, and reminds everyone that their jobs are in jeopardy if they speak on the subject

    • Mick addresses Nancy as Sandra, and reminds the cast and crew to do the same

  • Mick tells everyone to get their scripts in the box next to Cedrig on the floor & to start memorizing

  • Mick tells Rosie & Wanda to get Nancy into hair and makeup so they can do test shots before they start rehearsal

  • Rosie & Wanda show Nancy to her dressing room

    • The vanity rolls on SL

  • Lights out SL, lights on SR

    • Mabel & Cory are getting their scripts and gossiping about who should really take over the show

  • Lights on SL

    • Rosie & Wanda tell Nancy about what vibe they’re going for

    • They start to sing

      • The song switches from Rosie & Wanda to Mabel & Cory, with corresponding lights

        • MAYBE Nancy has a couple lines??

  • Scene ends with a blackout

Scene 11

  • The set bell rings, and everyone enters the stage

  • Mick explains what he wants for the scene, and gives a breakdown of what the storyline is

    • He calls Cory, Drew, Camille, Nancy, & Mabel up to the platform to begin shooting

  • Mick takes a look at Nancy to make sure she looks just like Sandra, then tells Rosie & Wanda they did it

  • Mick sings “Show Business”

    • Action! Blackout sequence

    • He descends down the stairs as he sings

  • Once the song is over, Mick dismisses people to memorize for the next scene

  • Mick talks to Cedrig about Nancy

    • Cedrig informs Mick that since ratings were down last season due to Sandra’s “injury,” there is little hush money

    • They go over the game plan for the season

  • Mick & Cedrig exit

Scene 12

  • Isaiah’s house rolls on during the transition

  • Nancy walks through the door
