Why did the Americans create the Articles of Confederation and what problems did it present?

After the American Revolution, states created their own constitutions. They became individually sovereign states (like a country). However, the federal government was very weak. This was done on purpose to prevent tyranny that was experienced before. Due to this, the federal government could not levy taxes or have a military.

This made the government very poor. All of the money that the federal government received was out of will from the states (so very little).
