• read last Bielo chapter: going global

tuesday:

• quiz, review old material in Bielo (especially with terms, and which people were for which beliefs)

• questions like: can new religious movements become legit, why or why not?

Fundamentialism:

• want to restore how a religion used to be

  • biblical fundamentalists want to return to how Christianity really was

  • scientology =/= fundamentalist

    • mental health:

      • bridging eastern religion and western science

      • mind blocks keeping people from healing

      • uniting people’s past lives and present lives

      • body and spirit can be seperated

      • no divine intervention, can still be considered religious?

      • religion based on knowing

  • mormons/LDS: new religious movement, not fundamentalist

    • can have a religious movement that becomes legitimized/mainstream, and then wants to return to their roots, and those become fundamentalist
