Incomplete and Codominance

Incomplete Dominance - neither allele is dominant, so the heterozygote phenotype is a blend/mixture of the two traits

• ex. a homozygous red flower (RR) crosses with a homozygous white flower (WW). As both traits have incomplete dominance over the other, the result is a mix of the two, and pink flowers (RW) are produced.

Codominance - neither allele is masked or mixed, and instead, both traits appear at the same time

• ex. a white cow (WW) is crossed with a red cow (RR). instead of these traits blending together, their offspring will have a roan color (RW), or a mix of the two appearing separately

• codominance is also seen in human blood types, with some people possessing an AB blood type rather than simply an A or B blood type
