Weaknesses of the League

Main weaknesses:

• Membership: USA didn’t join, Germany only joined in 1926 and USSR joined in 1934
• Collective Security: absence of USA made difficult, B + F had own interests
• Unanimous decisions: one vote against meant it was very difficult to take decisive actions (veto)
• Lack of army: had to ask member states to provide, particularly B + F
