Animal Cell Organelles
Animal Cell Organelles
Plasma Membrane (Cell Membrane)
Function: Serves as the protective outer layer of the cell.
Property: It is semi-permeable, meaning it meticulously controls what enters the cell (allowing essential substances) and prevents undesirable substances from entering.
Cytoplasm
Description: A watery medium located inside the cell in which all other components are suspended.
Contents: It contains all the functional parts of the cell, collectively known as organelles, which float within it.
Nucleus
Primary Role: This central organelle houses the cell's DNA, which contains all the genetic information necessary for the organism.
Genetic Structure: The DNA is organized into structures called chromosomes.
Chromosome Count: Each nucleus in every cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, amounting to a total of 46 chromosomes.
Nuclear Membrane
Location: This membrane completely surrounds the nucleus.
Function: It acts as a selective barrier, controlling the movement of substances into and out of the nucleus.
