Los Mandatos Negativos

A negative informal command is to tell someone NOT to do something.

ejemplos ———> Don’t talk to me! or Don’t get sick!

To form a negative command:

1. take the present tense (yo form)

2. drop the -o

3. for -ar verbs add es

4. for -er/ir verbs add as

5. put a NO in front of the command

6. IF the verb is REFLEXIVE, put the TE between the no and the command

Ejemplos:

• vender ———> vendo ———> ¡No vendas!

• hablar ———→ hablo ———→ ¡No hables!

• perderse ———→ me pierdo ———> ¡No te pierdas!

• salir ———→ salgo ————> ¡No salgas!

Some negative tú commands cues!

• Don’t go for a walk = ¡No te pasees!

• Don’t keep going straight = ¡No sigas derecho!

• Don’t get on the bus = ¡No te subas al autobús

• ir ———> ¡No vayas! (to know)

• ser ———>¡No seas (to be)

Translate using irregular negative tú command!

• Don’t be mean = ¡No seas antipático!

• Don’t go to the park = ¡No vayas a la zona verde!
