Amendments 11-27

  1. Amendments 13,14, and 15 are known as the Reconstruction Amendments or civil rights amendments. 

  2. Amendment 17 states the direct election of U.S. Senators by popular vote

  3. Amendments 12, 20, and 22 deal with the presidency.

  4. Amendment 11 states that states are immune from lawsuits by out-of-state citizens and foreigners.

  5. Amendments 18 and 21 are related because Amendment 18 established Prohibition, and Amendment 21 repealed it.

  6. Amendment 12 states changes in the electoral college

  7. Amendment 16 states Congress has the power to levy an income tax.

  8. Amendment 14 states that all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. are citizens and guarantees equal protection under the law.

  9. Amendment 19 states the right to vote cannot be denied based on sex (women's suffrage).

  10. Amendment 22 states the President is limited to two terms in office.

  11. Amendments 15,19, and 16 increase the amount of participation in the democratic process

  12. Amendment 26 lowered the voting age to 18.

  13. Amendment 20 states that the terms of the President and Congress begin in January (Lame Duck Amendment).

  14. Amendment 15 states that the right to vote was given to african american men.

  15. Amendment 23 states Washington, D.C. is granted electoral votes for President.

  16. Amendment 27 states Congressional pay raises take effect after the next election.

  17. Amendments 15, 19, and 26 deal with you can vote

  18. Amendment 25 states the procedures for presidential succession and disability

  19. Amendment 24 states that poll taxes are prohibited in federal elections.

Amendment 21: Repeal of prohibition (alcohol is legal)

Amendment 22: Limits the term of the president 

Amendment 23: Electoral votes for D.C.

Amendment 24: Abolished the Poll tax

Amendment 25: Presidential disability and succession

Amendment 26: Lowered the voting age to 18

Amendment 27: Congressional Pay
