Korea

After WWII

-The U.S. occupied the south and the USSR occupied the south

-The U.S. set up a capitalist/democracy, the USSR set up a communist dictatorship

-The South was seperated from the North on the 38th parallel

Start of Korean Civil War

When the U.S. gives the South their freedom the North invades (1950)

At first: The north is winning, takes the capital of south korea, almost wins (1950)

Then: South Korea pushes back, with the help of the US and other NATO countries, almost wins, gets into China… (1950)

BUT: China steps in to help North Korea, lines return to about the same place on the 38th parallel or “DMZ,” aka, the “Demilitarized Zone” (except it’s also the most populated place in the world (1950)

After this the war goes on for three more years with very little movenment and the war finally “ends” in 1953 with an armistance
