  • Lady Macbeth is presented to have a dominant control over Macbeths decisions in a deciteful manor, tricking him “ I may pour my spirits into thine ear and chastise the valour of my tongue.” (Act 1 scene 5) → the metaphors of “pour my spirits” creates a sense of infusing Macbeth with her same desires and ambition to make him act as she pleases. “Chastise the valour of my tongue” reveals her persuasive nature and the dominance she holds over Macbeth as she’s sure she can make him

→ also links her to the supernatural as she calls upon spirits and agrees to be their host which are viewed to be evil

  • Lady Macbeth is presented to be determined and strong minded

    after Macbeth murdered Duncan she reassured him that “a little water will clear us of this deed”(act 2 scene 2)

  • lady Macbeth is presented to be guilt ridden with Duncan’s murder.

    all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.” → emphasises how she’s released nothing will erase the weight of Duncan’s murder from her conscience. Her sleep has been disturbed, showing how’s she’s constantly unrestful and there’s no way for her to regain the ‘innocence’ she once had before

    “What’s done cannot be undone” → echo her “what’s done is done” showing how she cannot undo her choices to regain a sense of normality and freedom from guilt
