The mountains created valleys, allowing for independent city-states to form due to their isolation.
3. What events led to the rise of the Greek empire? - The Mycenaean’s were formed in the center of the island of Crete.They took over the Minoans, giving them assets to grow their own civilization.Their politics and trade caused them to rise and become great.
4. What was the importance of a system of democracy in the daily life of the Greeks? - They were able to participate in what happened to Greece. Decisions were made by the people. It made it so people were happier with what went on in the city-state.
5. What features does ancient Greek democracy share with modern-day democracy? - People vote on what happens, while Greece had a direct democracy, and we have a representative one. There’s an age minimum on both, ‘For the people, by the people.’

Actors. In Greece, people would act in plays as a tribute to the god of wine, pleasure, and fertility Dionysus. Actors were always male - including playing females - and one to three would preform at a time. They would play an array of characters, using masks to differentiate them. At the Dionysia festival, 14000 people would come and watch a play competition.

Doctors. Ancient Greeks believed sickness came from in imbalance in four ‘humors.’ The humors were: Black bile, yellow bile, blood, and phlegm. To balance them, doctors would induce vomiting, bleeding, or sweating to ‘heal’ them.

Food. A Greek diet was very healthy. They grew all of their food. Grain to make bread, they grew figs and grapes to eat, they kept cows and goats to make cheese and butter. In larger city-states, you could pay to cook meat in a meat house, but it was expensive. Men would eat first, then women.

Marriage. Marriage’s were often arranged by the groom and the guardian of the bride, most commonly at age 14 to a man twice her age. The guardian would announce the bride was ready for suitors, and they would compete for her hand. Prior to their marriage they would meet a couple times.
