Involves grouping words into meaningful phrases, reading with prosody, intonation, and stress.
Difference Between Automaticity and Fluency
Automaticity: Fast, effortless word recognition, developed through consistent reading practice.
Fluency: Requires automaticity and involves reading with expression (prosodic features like rhythm, pitch, intonation).
Skills that Facilitate Reading Fluency
Knowledge of common morphological endings (e.g., -ed, -ing, -s).
Familiarity with word families and/or word neighborhoods.
Ability to detect orthographic patterns.
Key Point
Automaticity is necessary but not sufficient for achieving reading fluency.
