• mary’s acceptance and not anger → god values forgiveness

• jesus looks peaceful → heavenly peace, hope for catholics that suffer that are better things to come

• her palms show openness to God. the way that mary holds jesus → compassion, love and mercy = god’s goodness

SUFFERING

• jesus = smaller and less poweful → fragility more apparent. jesus = fully human and experienced suffering

• wearing a small cloth → humiliated in final hours of death ‘he was oppressed and afflicted and yet he didnt open his mouth’ → could be interpreted to mean he experienced suffering at the hands of human

• jesus vunerability → lays across mary. position similar to a little child on their parent’s lap = comforted in death
