Cognition
Attention: Awareness or focus refers to the cognitive process of selectively concentrating on one aspect while ignoring others. It is essential for processing information efficiently and is influenced by factors such as motivation, interest, and the nature of the information presented.
Perception: This is the process of organizing and interpreting sensory information. Perception helps individuals make sense of their surroundings by converting sensory stimuli into meaningful experiences. The process involves various factors, including past experiences, expectations, and context.
Thinking: Conscious thought processes encompass various mental activities, including reasoning, problem-solving, and planning. It involves analyzing information, forming concepts, and generating ideas or conclusions. This cognitive function is crucial for decision-making and everyday functioning.
Decision-making: A cognitive process that involves choosing between alternatives based on preferences and available information. This process can be influenced by biases, emotional states, and social interactions, enabling individuals to navigate complex situations and make choices aligned with their goals and values.

How Emotions Guide Cognitions
Organizational: Emotions play a vital role in organizing thoughts, behaviors, and responses. They help prioritize information and influence cognitive resources devoted to various tasks, shaping decision-making processes.
Primary appraisal: The initial assessment of a situation's relevance to one’s well-being or goals. This stage involves evaluating the immediate impact of an event and its alignment with personal values and objectives.
Informational: Emotions provide critical information about environmental contexts and internal states, acting as indicators of how to respond effectively. Understanding these emotional signals is crucial in guiding one's actions and reactions in various scenarios.
Secondary appraisal: This involves evaluating available resources and options for coping with a situation. It is a more reflective and deeper evaluation that considers feelings and the ability to manage the situation effectively.
Emotions as Information

Experiment demonstrating Emotions as Information
