Blood brothers-all

Advantages-proscmium arch

↳ Realism- feel effected when the characters experience intense emotions and personal struggles (eg- death)

↳ Backdrops- Willy Russel wanted the Johnstone’s and Lyon’s house on stage at all times

↳ L Split screen effectively (large space)- Mickey robs petrol station at the same time as Edward proposes to Linda shows their contrasting lives and how their social class dictated a lot of their lives

↳ Areas of staging- make Mrs Johnstone’s house downstage so the audience is closer to her daily struggles and pay more attention so they can empathize with her situation creating a stronger emotional connection to her character

↳ Easy entrances/exits- maintaing the flow and allows for dramatic exits

Disadvantages-proscmium arch

↳ Futher from audience- less emotional attatachment to characters therefore the impact of their struggles may be diminished

↳ Breaking the fourth wall is less impactful- narrarator is supposed to be like a moral commentator and his message might not come across as clearly

↳ Less natural- the interactions between characters may feel staged whic would reduce the naturalism

Lighting (creating mood and atmosphere/drama)- death

↳ Deep red flood light- makes the moment more intense as you can feel Mickey’s anger and despair adding to the heavy emotional weight of the scene as it foreshadows the tragic turn of events

↳ Flashing deep blue lights- shows that the police is on their way

↳ Snap to normal light

↳ Follow deep blue profile spot on family- isolation and regret of not coming sooner

↳ Cross fade to warm blue floodlight-contrasts the tention and shows the sadness of the situation highlighting the stark reality of Mickey's choices and the irreversible consequences that lie ahead and the grief of those left behind
