Diabetes
A1C target goal with T2DM?
The general target for HbA1c in people with type 2 diabetes is usually below 7%. This goal helps reduce the risk of complications like cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, and retinopathy. However, the target may vary based on individual circumstances such as age, overall health, presence of other conditions, and risk of hypoglycemia.
For some people, particularly those who are older or have a history of severe hypoglycemia, a slightly higher HbA1c target (e.g., 7.5% to 8%) may be appropriate. Conversely, in younger, healthier individuals or those with fewer complications, a more stringent target (e.g., below 6.5%) might be recommended.
It’s best to work with a healthcare provider to determine the right target for each individual.
Which injectables are non-insulins? (Trulicity, Victoza, Ozempic, Mounjaro). Not all injectables are insulins.
Among the injectable medications you listed, all are non-insulin medications used to manage type 2 diabetes, but they belong to different classes of drugs:
1. Trulicity – Non-insulin. It is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist.
2. Victoza – Non-insulin. It is also a GLP-1 receptor agonist.
3. Ozempic – Non-insulin. It is another GLP-1 receptor agonist.
4. Mounjaro – Non-insulin. It is a GLP-1 and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide) receptor agonist.
These medications help control blood sugar levels through mechanisms other than insulin.
