Single Displacement Reactions

Activity Series (Cations)
In order for a single displacement reaction to occur the element doing the displacing must be high on the Activity Series than what it is replacing in the compound.
Zinc displaces lead but lead won’t displace zinc
Hydrogen will displace gold but it will not displace calcium
Activity Series (Anions)
The Activity Series for the Halogens works the same way. In order for a reaction to occur the element doing the displacing must be higher on the Activity Series than the one it is replacing. If not, no chemical reaction occurs.
This AS follows the order of the periodic table.
Chlorine will displace Iodine but it won’t displace Fluorine
Fluorine

Chlorine
Bromine
Iodine
