  • Family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State

  • Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family

  • The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family

Art. 15, Sec. 1

  • The State recognizes the Filipino family as the foundation of the nation.

Art. 15, Sec. 3

  • The State shall defend:

    • Right of spouses to found a family in accordance with their religious convictions and demands for responsible parenthood. 

    • Right of children to assistance, including proper care and nutrition and special protection 

    • Right of family to a family living wage and income 

    • Right of families or family associations to participate in planning and implementation of policies and program.

Art. 15, Sec. 4

The family has the duty to care for its elderly members but the State may do so through just programs of social security

EXECUTIVE ORDER 209 - FAMILY CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES

Art. 1

Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

Art. 68

The husband and wife are obliged to live together, observe mutual love, respect and fidelity, and render mutual help and support. 

Art. 149

The family, being the foundation of the nation, is a basic social institution which public policy cherishes and protects.

Art.176

Illegitimate children shall use the surname and shall be under the parental authority of their mother, and shall be entitled to support in conformity of the code.
