Essay
. Below I have listed 4 essay questions. Two of them will appear on the exam, with
the requirement to write on one of them.
1.
From antiquity through the seventeenth century, various forms of government and political
system existed. Summarize the transformations that occurred from Athenian democracy and
the Roman republic to the monarchies of the seventeenth century. How did those
transformations occur? Be sure to discuss the different forms of monarchy that emerged in the
seventeenth century.
2.
The role and influence of Christianity evolved significantly from its founding until the end of the
seventeenth century. Discuss Christianity’s evolution in European society over this period,
including major events, major changes, significant figures, and relationships with political
leadership.
3.
How did the ancient world (most notably ancient Greece and Rome) influence the development
of both Medieval and early modern Europe? You should consider cultural, religious, political,
and military trends and topics, while demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the material
we’ve discussed so far.
4.
In the 300 years following the Bubonic Plague, Europe experienced significant changes
politically, socially, religiously, and militarily. Discuss the major events that drove these changes.
