1. SAFETY DEMONSTRATION

Key Components of the Safety Demonstration

Safety Demonstration Interpreter

  • The cabin crew member (CCM) tasked with presenting the safety demonstration is referred to as the “INTERPRETER.”
  • The INTERPRETER is typically selected from cabin crew members fluent in required languages, predominantly from CA2.
  • The safety demonstration must be delivered clearly and understandably by the INTERPRETER.

Safety Demonstration Briefing Languages

  • The demonstration will be conducted in the passengers’ most widely spoken languages.
  • Post-demonstration, the Public Address system manager (PRAM) will broadcast the English version of the demonstration while securing the cabin.
  • For international flights, discussions will also include a third language as identified by PRAM.
  • In cases of short taxi, a condensed version of the demonstration will focus solely on the safety card aspects.
  • It is essential that the PRAM is updated with the latest announcements prior to usage.

Safety Demonstration Positions - Airbus A319

With 4 Cabin Crew Members
  • On Ground Requirements: Doors must be monitored continuously.
  • Forward Doors: Considered attended when a CCM is performing the demonstration in Row 1.

If SCCM is the Only Available Interpreter
  • Teams must ensure door attendance remains constant.

  • Continual door monitoring is required.

Safety Demonstration Video Guidelines
  • CCMs should assume their designated positions at the introduction and verify passengers are not using headphones.
  • Configuration variations allow for a different number of available overwing exits (2 or 4).
  • Demonstration should adopt the passenger’s perspective (point out exits behind them, not towards themselves).
  • Life Vest Policy: The life vest may either be removed or kept on based on the discretion of each CCM.

2. OVERWING EXITS BRIEFING

Guidelines

  • Always utilize the Passenger Briefing Booklet (PAX Briefing Booklet).
  • Passengers at overwing exits are prohibited from using headphones during taxiing, taking off, and landing.

3. SPECIAL CATEGORIES OF PASSENGERS (SCP) BRIEFINGS

Key Considerations for Evacuation

  • Understanding when to initiate evacuation, who will assist them, where the exits are located, and how to use the exits is vital.
  • Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) should embark before all other passengers to ensure adequate time for accommodations and instruction from crew members.

Briefing Protocols for Passengers with Infants

  • Cabin crew will provide the adult accompanying an infant with:
    • A special safety card
    • An additional life vest
    • A baby seat belt
  • Adults should be briefed on the use of the Passenger Service Unit (PSU) fixed oxygen mask.
  • The brace position should also be explained to adults holding an infant.

Briefings to Special Categories of Passengers

Physically Disabled Passengers
  • Instruct the SCP to leave any mobility aid behind during an emergency evacuation.
Passengers with Disabilities Affecting Upper Limbs
  • Inform accompanying passengers on:
    • Fitting the life jacket onto the SCP in the event of ditching evacuation.
    • The necessity for the SCP to put on their own oxygen mask before providing assistance during decompression.
    • How to secure or release the SCP’s seatbelt, if needed.
Passengers with Disabilities Affecting Lower Limbs
  • Brief the SCP regarding:
    • Location of the nearest suitable exit.
    • The possibility that mobility aids might not be accessible during an emergency evacuation.
Passengers with Disabilities Affecting Both Upper and Lower Limbs
  • In a decompression scenario, the accompanying passenger should put on their oxygen mask before providing aid.
Visually Impaired Passengers
  • Depending on the severity of the impairment, inform the visually impaired about:
    • Seat and seatbelt operation
    • Location of the nearest exit
    • Oxygen mask deployment
    • Location of the life jacket
    • The brace position
    • Location of the cabin crew call button
Passenger Traveling with an Assistance Dog
  • Advise on how to evacuate by guiding the dog while holding on to it and sliding.

Passenger Briefing Booklet

  • The Passenger Briefing Booklet is a component of the aircraft documentation and must be available:
    • In EFOS:
    • 3 hard copies on each aircraft.
    • Accessible in the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) on each iPad.
  • The Senior Cabin Crew Member (SCCM) is responsible for ensuring its presence on board.
  • Use of the booklet is mandatory when delivering briefings to standardize information for Overwing exits (OWE) and every SCP, according to their specific needs.
  • Cabin crew members must hold the guide physically; the briefing does not need to be read verbatim but must ensure all points are covered.
