• Science uses the metric system for measurements

  • Length is measured in meters (m)
  • Mass is measured in grams (g)
  • Volume is measured in liters (l)

• Metric prefixes from largest to smallest are as follows

  • Kilo - k
  • Hecto - h
  • Deca - da
  • Base Unit (meter, liter, gram)
  • Deci - d
  • Centi - c
  • Milli - m

• Metric Conversion Shortcut

  • To convert from large to small, move the decimal to the right
  • To convert from small to large, move the decimal to the left

• Example Problems

  • 75 ml =  .075  l
  • 5.6 kg =  56 hg
  • 198 l = .198 kl
  • 4.3 dal = 43 l
