1806- the board of vaccinators was established and later on, the office of medicos titulares or health officers

1872- the university of santo tomas, the first medical school in the philippines, was founded

1876- the year marked the construction of carriedo waterworks that provided piped water to manila residents, with don francisco carriedo as benefactor

1879- the school of midwifery was established

1884- koniger gave an account of an epidemic of beriberi in manila 1882-1883 and started that the disease had not been known there previously. 1913, vedder cited references of the disease in spanish documents ranging from 1609-1669
