Background on SPM:
SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) is a national examination supervised by the Malaysian Examination Board under the Ministry of Education. It replaces the MCE and SPP.
Taking SPM is crucial for further education in universities and higher learning institutions.
Definition of students not sitting for SPM:
Students who do not attend or participate in the examination, regardless of having clear or unclear reasons.
Objectives of the group:
Identify issues causing students not to take the SPM exam.
Explain and propose solutions to these issues.
Trends in SPM Participation:
Decrease in students registered for SPM in 2023 compared to 2022, with 5,019 fewer candidates.
Main issues affecting SPM participation:
Family problems, social media influence, lack of motivation, financial issues, health issues (mental and physical), poor academic performance, peer influence, personal priorities, and learning environment.
