irreversibility - refers to a child's inability to mentally reverse a sequence of events or logical operations. A child might not understand that if you pour water from a tall glass back into the original container, the amount of water remains unchanged. They struggle to follow the process backward in their mind.
Conservation - is the understanding that certain properties of objects, such as volume, mass, and number, remain the same despite changes in the form or arrangement of the objects. In a conservation task involving playdough, a child might think that a ball of playdough has more substance than the same ball flattened into a pancake shape because the flattened shape looks larger.
