1st Corinthians 6

Lawsuits in the Church

1. Paul shames them for taking their disputes to the local, unrighteous courts rather than saints

2. We Christians should be capable of making judgments in their own matters as we will one day reign with Jesus and judge the angels

3. If this is our destiny, why are Corinth Christians going to secular judges for their religious issues?

4. For all the wisdom they assume themselves to have, this is dumb.

5. Going to court is generally fine. But brother vs brother in a secular church over Christian disputes is not

6. It is already a failure that one took another to court

   1. Like modern America, obsessed with their “rights” rather than what is right with God

7. Do not put what you are owed, rightfully or not, over God’s glory

   1. Anyone who puts God’s will over their dues will not lose out in the end

   2. Suffer the wrongness rather than putting your issues before nonbelievers

8. Paul points out that the Corinthians themselves do many wrongs. It is does by and among them.

9. He reminds them that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God

   1. But Christians have been washed and renewed through Jesus so why are they acting like this?

Sexual Purity

1. The Corinthians believe it is okay for them to use the service of prostitutes

2. Paul mentions that Jesus did fulfill the Mosaic law and now Christians are free do to more things (Eat whatever, etc)

3. But not all things are good for a person nor glorify God (prostitutes)

4. They use the excuse that when they are hungry they eat, so when they are horny, they hire prostitutes

5. Paul makes sure to point out that this is not the same

   1. Food laws vs sexual immorality

6. Our bodies are temples and members of Christ

   1. So don’t take that and invite a harlot in

   2. Sleeping with someone means you merge with them

      1. “two become one flesh”

   3. They’re doing that with random prostitutes!

7. Be joined to the Lord

8. So RUN from sexual immorality

   1. Every other sin affects outside the body but this one takes it’s toll inside

9. We came at a price, so dedicate your body to God!

10. Let it glorify him!
