Galatians 2

  1. The Jerusalem church did not turn away Titus (a gentile Christian) because he was uncircumcised.

    1. They understood the gospel the way Paul did

    2. Only false bretheren had issue with Titus’ uncircumcision

    3. But Paul was steadfast that circumcision had no bearing on salvation, so that other may look at his example and learn the true gospel

  2. God shows personal favoritism to no man!

    1. Paul says that men who seem to think they’re something big are of no extraordinary importance to him

  3. Paul and the Apostles he met (Peter, James, and John) agreed with each other

    1. Peter only puts emphasis on circumcision because he preaches to Jews not gentiles

    2. Paul was only asked by them to remember the poor saint in Jerusalem and Paul does make sure even gentile Christians remember

  4. But then Paul did have a rebuke of Peter

    1. Peter was fine and happy with associating and eating with Gentile Christians

    2. But then he switched up when Jewish believers came and saw him, separating himself from the gentiles

    3. Paul confronted Peter publicly

    4. Paul asked, if he likes to live as the gentiles while being a Jew, does Peter ask gentiles to live as Jews?

      1. Peter does not follow old Jewish laws or under the strict Law of Moses

      2. Yet in the presence of Jews, he will ask this of gentiles

    5. One is not right by God by being obedient to the Law of Moses, but by their belief in Jesus

  5. There is more sin in trying to find our way to God through our own works than in leaning on him than there is in normal everyday sin.

    1. Jesus wipes us clean and forgives us of our sin, but he is not permitting it by any means.

  6. Paul says he died to the law so that he may live through God

    1. Just as the Jews must die to their old laws.

    2. Because you can only live the gift of new life Jesus’ provides through faith in him

  7. If righteousness comes through the law, Christ died in vain.

    1. If you can be righteous to God by law-keeping, Jesus’ sacrifice was pointless
