The colonies didn’t really care about each other at the time and the British were busy with other work and so they stopped caring and being as strict of the colonies as they were before. So the colonies had more freedom and did what they wanted but a fight erupted between the fresh and the British. They both wanted the land of Ohio river valley and they both wanted to trade with the native Americans. Although the natives preferred the French because the French treated them better. George Washington confronted the French for this, which at that point started the French and Indian war. The war was the French and the Indians against the British and it went on for 7 years snd the British won. During the war the colonists felt like they were not being treated respectfully by the British and they had some minor arguments. After the British won they signed a peace of treaty in 1763 in paris and French give up their land in the mainland of North America and leave. Despite the British gaining land they were also in lots of debt, the British spent a lot of money on this 7 year war. The British had a plan to end their debt and it had to do with the colonists. They stopped the Salutary neglect against the colonists (the colonists liked the salutary neglect because they got freedom to do whatever they wanted and didn’t feel trapped and controlled by the mother country) so this ends in 1763 and after tbe French’s defeat colonists start moving to the natives area which caused the Pontiac’s rebellion where the natives fight back against the colonists. So the British make the proclamation where the colonsts are restricted from moving to the native land in order to start any more wars, but the colonists started moving to that area , during this period the British started imposing the sugar act and many other taxes which angers the colonies who do not want to pay while British claim that they do have to pay because the war was fought for them so the acts anger people and British tries people who smuggle sugar without paying the taxes but the stamp act made hell break lose. This act passed after the sugar act angered every colonists who felt like the English never asked for their permission before imposing the tax so the colonies all unite against the British and protest sons of liberty and daughters of liberty are men and women protesting and boycotting and harassing stamp collectors until British finally take back the act and passing the declatory act, which claimed that the British had rights for impose laws on the colonies. And during the 1765 these acts continue with the quartering act which states that the colonists have to provide shelter food and necessities for British soldiers and open up their door for them and the colonists hated this a lot. A new tax came in with tea lead and paint. The colonists continue with the boycotts and in the 1770 the Boston massacre happens when the colonists and the British have a conflict and shots are fired and 5 colonists are killed and this was propaganda against the British for the colonists. 1772 communities of correspondence was created due to the massacre, the colonies would get together and talk about the issues. Rhe taxation angered colonists who claimed that they weren’t represented in the parliament and shouldn’t be taxed, but England believed in virtual representation that claimed that they pass laws for all people including the colonies and they were represented in the parliament, which the colonists disagreed with.1773 the tea act where the British east india company lowered the cost of tea but the colonists still refused to buy it. And in 1773 colonists pour out the tea onto the water by boarding a ship disguised as native Americans. The British were very angry and passed the intolerable acts in 1774 where they closed the ship ports until the damage was fixed. And in the same year the continental congress is created replacing the committee of correspondence. The creation of the continental congress was a response to the intolerable acts, they met in Philly (except for Georgia) where they wrote down complains about the British and claimed that they wanted to go back to salutary neglect and wanted military against the British, and wanted to continue their boycott against the British and promised to meet in a year. They did not want independence, they just wanted to go back to salutary neglect. In 1775 in Lexington the British arrive in the colonies wanting to arrest 2 colonists Samuel Adam’s and John Hancock and 2 other colonists warned the colonies, 8 miniutemen killed. The next day they go to concord, they fought each other back to Boston. After the war which the colonists won they wanted peace and created an issue called the Olive branch petition and they tell the British to just let them go back to salutary neglect. But the British king disagreed and wanted to punish the colonies which led to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The declaration happened because British were trying to get more men on their side convincing some colonists who wanted to stay with Britain (loyalists) and some slaves (they promised to set them free if they fought for them) and German soldiers known for their violence and this angered the normal colonists who also started being against British (patriots). The same year Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet against the British which convinced many colonists to side with patriots. So the declaration of indepdence is written for all these reason by Thomas Jefferson who got inspiration from many others, and issued by the 2nd continental congress. The articles of confederation is written in 1777 but it was a very weak form of government, due to it not being able to tax the colonists, they did not even have a leader because they hated the idea from England. But they could conduct forging relations borrow money. Saratoga war between the colonies and the British started where the French started getting involved in it. After the war which the colonies won, the colonies started creating a stable government where they created state constitutions and religious tolerance, and slavery was outlawed in the northern states. In 1783 another treaty of Paris was signed between British and the colonies but Britain did not do what they promised to do they didn’t leave the posts. The northwest ordinance was created in 1787 which allowed colonies to apply for statehood after they reached a certain amount of people, which allowed the country to expand(thank to articles of confideration.) The natives were kicked out of their lands and in 1784-1787 America did have a small depression area because they were in debt after the war and weren’t allowed to collect taxes. The farmers are angry because they were in debt. Due to this shay’s rebellion happened and the man wanted paper money and wanted tax relief it became clear that the articles of confederation were weak and this rebellion proved it. The colonists called for a better government which led to the constitution
