Renal Pyramids

Septa
- Structures that separate the inside of organs into lobes.
- In the context of the kidneys, septa divide the lobes associated with renal pyramids.
Medulla and Cortex
- The pyramids are located in the renal medulla, with the renal cortex surrounding it.
- Nephrons, crucial functional units of the kidney, reside primarily within the renal cortex.
Nephrons
- Functional units of the kidney responsible for filtering blood and producing urine.
- Located in the renal cortex, they filter waste from the blood and regulate various compounds.
- Blood filtration begins at the glomerulus, part of the nephron, and continues through various tubular segments.
Renal Hilium
- The indent in the kidney where the renal artery and vein enter and exit.
- Also serves as the entry point for the ureter, which transports urine from the kidney.
Renal Pelvis
- Collecting structure at the center of the kidney where urine gathers before it flows into the ureter.
- Minor calyces collect urine from the renal pyramids, converging into major calyces before entering the renal pelvis.
Collecting Ducts
- Located within the renal pyramids, they receive filtrate from nephrons.
- Converge to form a single
