Reading Atlas Tips
SLAY
S = skim
look at titles, subtitles, images, graphs, charts (no more than 30 secs to skim)
L = look at question
look at answers and specific details before answering
A = answer questions
answer questions with data from S and L
Y = yo! check your answers
check your answers to make sure you answer the right answer or if it asked for two responses
Vocab words- look at root or base word or use context clues from the sentence the word is in
Main idea- Tells what the story is about
Theme- the lesson the text is trying to tell you
Make sure to compare and contrast

Sequence
Problem and Solution
Description
Compare and contrast
Graphical Features 
Italics
images
graphs

Resolution- Solution
Characters- people in the story
Setting- Where the story is taken place
Figurative Language
Similes- uses like or as
Metaphor- Does not use like or as
Idiom- does not mean what it actually says
Personification- giving something that his not human human like features
Onomatopoeia- word in a text that imitate sound
