Head and Neck Region

  • Landmarks:
    • Zygomatic arch
    • Mandible (angle and body)
  • Clinical relevance: Help localize cranial nerves and blood vessels.
Facial Pulse
  • The angle and body of the mandible can help localize blood vessels.
Temporal Pulse
  • The zygomatic arch helps identify areas where an artery can be compressed against a bone.
  • Temporal: side of the head.
Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) Muscle
  • Other landmarks:
    • Carotid triangle
    • Trachea and thyroid gland
  • Clinical Note: The carotid pulse is palpable just medial to the SCM.

Thorax Region

  • Landmarks:
    • Clavicle
    • Sternum and manubrium
    • Costal margin
  • Reference point: The 2nd rib aligns with the sternal angle (Angle of Louis), a key reference for rib counting.

    • Anterior axillary line

Back Region

  • Landmarks:
    • Scapular spine
    • Vertebral prominens (C7)
    • Iliac crest (L4 landmark for lumbar puncture)
    • Inferior angle of scapula

    • T3 spinous process
    • T7 spinous process
    • T12 spinous process
    • S2

Abdominopelvic Region

  • Abdominal Wall: External surface
  • Planes:
    • Midclavicular plane
