Assessment

  • 30% Reflective Journal: Weekly entry

    (up to 200 words per entry)

  • 70% Posters (Group project) to be presented on week 12.

  • Ex-diplomat for the irish ambassador in japan from 2010 - 2014

  • Takes 4 years until the next ambassador is chosen again.

  • The two countries can be somewhat similar

  • No need to have a diplomatic relationship for trading and negotiations etc.
    Building a diplomatic relationship can have trust between these two countries.

  • Embassy → Aiding each other.

  • The 4 main islands of Japan: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu

  • Religion: Shinto and Buddhism

  • Birth rate decline → lower population, slowly letting foreigners into the country to live in.

  • Tourism impact on Japan → creating more english written signs, train announcements are in english, chinese, korean..

  • Yen would have been 1 euro - 110 Yen but is now 1 euro - 160 Yen.

  • 47 prefectures - each prefectures has it’s own culture and are proudly representing them.

  • Similar to the counties in Ireland but each prefecture in Japan have a strong and more independent government of their own. such as their own local laws, services: schools, hospital, roads.. and money control of collecting and spending their own taxes.

  • Japanese people only migrate out of Japan if it’s only for economic reasons.

  • Inward migration is only 10% in Japan while Ireland has 15% - 20%.

  • Japan’s popular sport is Baseball, Soccer (American influence) and their own invented sports like Kendo
