Types of Government
Anarchy
- No government, order, justice, or law.
- Usually occurs when a government fails due to mismanagement, corruption, or rebellion.
- A "Failed State" describes the existence of anarchy.
Authoritarianism
- One political party controls all political functions for their benefit.
- Example: China, where the Communist Party controls government processes at all levels.
Democracy
- Government controlled by the people.
- Decisions are made by majority vote (pure democracy).
- Historically, pure democracies can devolve into dictatorships due to lack of participation or by ceding power.
Oligarchy
- Government controlled by a small group for their political, social, and economic benefit.
- Example: Russian Republic, where the President and members of the oligarchy control political, economic, and social outcomes.
