The Lord’s Prayer

Importance

  • ‘Lord, teach us how to pray’ Luke and Jesus answered with this prayer

  • A model of good prayer, includes ACTS

  • A reminder that God is the Father of the whole Christian community and can create a sense of unity (universalism)

  • Can be used in many context, e.g. Liturgical/ private worship, Holy Communion, baptism, marriages, funerals, schools, etc.

  • Encourages reflection in the middle of a busy life

  • Gives a sense of peace

  • Gives strength in times of suffering or trouble and helps Christians accept God’s will

Informal prayer

  • may involve ACTS

  • ‘from the heart’, more personal

  • strengthens connection with God

  • personalised to the person’s needs
