Matter
Matter is any substance that occupies space (takes up space) and has mass (weight) by chemicals.
All matter has physical and chemical properties.
Matter exists in the form of a: solid, liquid, or gas.
SOLID
• Have a fixed shape AND a fixed volume (Meaning it has a specific shape and size that doesn’t change on its own)
Examples: A rock, book, chair
LIQUIDS
• Have a fixed volume but NO fixed shape meaning it will always take the shape of it’s container
• Has enough energy to slide and flow past one another
Examples: Water, milk, juice
GAS
• Have NO fixed shape or fixed volume and will expand to fill their container
• Their particles are far apart and more freely
Examples: The air you breathe (oxygen), the gas that fills balloons and make them float (helium).
ENERGY
IS NOT MATTER (Light and electricity are from of energy)
