Section 1: Listening Comprehension

In this section of the test, you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to understand conversations and talks in English.

Structure of section:

  1. Short dialogues: two-lined dialogues between two speakers.
  2. Long conversations: 60-90 seconds´conversations on casual topics between two students.
  3. Long talks: shortened versions of lectures taught in American colleges and universities.

Section 2: Structure and Written Expression

This section is designed to measure your ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English. There are two types of questions in this section, with special directions for each type.

Structure of section:

  1. Structure questions: sentences in which part of the sentence has been replaced with a blank.
  2. Written expression questions: sentences in which four words have been underlined and one of them is not correct

Section 3: Reading Comprehension

This section is designed to measure your ability to understand short passages similar in topic and style to those students are likely to deal with in American universities and colleges.

Structure of section:

  1. Reading comprehension questions: questions about the information given in the reading passage, e.g main idea, explicit detail and implied detail
  2. Vocabulary questions: questions to identify the meanings of vocabulary words, which sometimes may have to be worked out from context.
