Lesson 1: Understanding ICT and its Relevance to Society
(ICT) Information and Communications Technology
– refers to technologies that are used to support the processing, storing, securing, and transmitting of information.
COMPONENTS OF ICT:
People
Procedures
Hardware
Software
Data
Information
People – individuals responsible for the development, improvement, and maintenance of an ICT system.
Procedures – actions performed in a certain order and conditions to make sure an ICT system runs smooth.
Hardware – technical term used to describe physical or tangible parts of a computer system.
Examples:
• desktop
• computers
• laptops
• tablets
• smartphones- Software – generic term for computer programs and applications installed in your hardware. It is responsible for providing sets of instructions that the computer has to follow to accomplish a specific task.
Examples:
• word processing app
• spreadsheets
• graphic manipulation software
• antivirus software
• computer games
• operating systems- Data – raw facts or figures that can be processed, stored, and transmitted by an ICT system.
- Information – result of processed, organized, and structured data.
USES AND IMPACTS OF ICT - ICT at Home
- common uses of ICT devices at home.
- ICT at Communication Tool
- devices often use in communicating.
- ICT at Education
- helpful for learning.
- ICT and Employment
- assisting people in doing their Jobs.
- ICT and Government
- devices assist in government operations.
- ICT and Commerce
- advantage: purchasing products online.
- ICT and Entertainment
- devices often use for entertainment.
Lesson 2: Social, Mobile, and Assistive Media
SOCIAL MEDIA
- can be described as websites or applications that give people the capability to share and receive information and media contents with one another.
TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA:
a) Social Networking Sites
- provide users with a real-time conversation via text messages, audio, or video chat.
b) Media-Sharing Sites
- primary purpose is to share multimedia contents like photographs, audio files, or video.
c) Discussion Sites
- designed for individuals who are avid fans of forums and debates.
d) Bookmarking and Content Curation Sites
- platforms for people who are searching for information or ideas that will help them on a project they are working on.

MOBILE MEDIA
- refers to communication devices that are characterized by portability or their ability to be moved or carried easily.
ASSISTIVE MEDIA - electronic devices or programs that seek to reach out to PWDs by providing the support that will increase or improve their functional capabilities through the use of technology.
TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA:
• For the Visually Impaired
• For People with Hearing Impairments
• For People with Speech Difficulty
• For People with Learning or Cognition Difficulty
Lesson 3: Convergent Technologies and Evolution of the Web
Technological Convergence
- refers to a state in which two or more technology entities and functions are combined into one device or system.
- its modality is observable in three categories: computing technology, content technology, or communication technology.
The 3Cs of Technological Convergence:
Computing Technology
Content Technology
Communication Technology
Computing Technology
• refers to the improvements made on electronic devices or gadgets by combining the functions of two or more devices into one gadget.
• an electronic device that people use and maintain that can perform the functions of six or more devices compared to the handful of tools.Content Technology
• combines different media formats such as text, pictures, sounds, and videos into one multimedia content.
• its goal is to appeal to as many senses used by an individual as possible to obtain information, such as seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling.Communication Technology
• refers to the fast and effective transfer of information through the collaboration of different communication technologies.
• include radio frequencies, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity, ethernet, and fiber optics, just to name a few.
• We can now listen to our favorite radio stations that are aired using FM or Frequency Modulations by using wireless earphones that employ Bluetooth technology. It is also possible to take pictures using a tablet, share the image with friends using a network powered by a hotspot signal, and then post it to a social media website using a Wi-Fi connection.
Internet
- a handy invention that has proven its worth since the time of its conception.
- a very reliable technology that aids people in communicating, researching for information, and disseminating information.
WEBSITE V.S. WEB PAGE
Website
- helps us to perform our tasks using internet as an enabling technology.
- composed of hyperlinks and sometimes
Web applications that are published by
individuals, institutions, and business
organizations.
- composed of hyperlinks and sometimes
- consists of one or more web pages that
refer to the individual links or pages of a
website (acts like the pages of a book).
- once a user clicks a link or presses a
button on a website, it instructs the site to
jump from one web page to another web
page, thus changing the display on the
computer screen.
Web Page
- can be either static or dynamic in nature.
- these natures are identified by their method of displaying web pages when being requested or clicked by the user.
Types of Web Page:
a. Static Web Page
b. Dynamic Web Page
a. Static Web Page
• Characterized by their fixed content, which means that it shows the same content every time the web page is accessed.
• All the elements like textual information and multimedia content are hard-coded and embedded in the web page, making it difficult to update or modify.
• If the author of the website decides to make changes in one of its web pages, the whole site will be inoperable for a period to give way for the coding or updating of the content.
b. Dynamic Web Page
• Known for being changeable, which means that its content can change each time the web page is accessed.
• Elements like text, graphics, audio files, and videos are saved in the server, making it very easy to update.
• a user clicks a link that will show an explanation about the water cycle; the website will request the said multimedia content from the server, and from there, the server will post the video on the site.
• If the author notices an error on the information displayed on the website, he only has to upload the modified version of the text to the server and delete the one that contains the error.
