The cell theory -

The chromosome theory of inheritance - Genetic information is stored in chromosomes

  • The central dogma - Genetic info is stored in dna > transfered to RNA where the info is temporarily stored > transferred to proteins to carry out cell functions

Evolution by natural selection

  • Charles Darwin & Alfred russel Wallace independently

  • People differ in characteristics ( traits), which can be passed down to their offspring (inheritance)

  • Differing versions of characteristics increase the chance of survival

ex. cayote hunting a white rabbit rather than a black rabbit

  • The characteristics that are most optimal for survival & reproduction (adaptation)will increase the overall population and make the characteristic more common

Hypothesis vs Theory

  • Hypothesis - a measuable/ testable statement that has an explananation for an observation

  • Expiremtent- tests effects of factors

  • prediction - Must be linked to a observable/mesurable result

  • Theory - An explanation for a general class of phenomena or observations that are supported by a mass of evidence

Random vs Non-Random process

  • Non random -

ex. Predator eating mice that dont match the enviorment due to its characteristics allowing the predator to see the animal much easier

Natural selection - beach mice with a lighter coat has a higher chance of survival as it blends in much better with the enviornment causing better chance of reproduction

  • Random -

ex. Genetic mutation of an animal
