• happens with shared valence electonrs between nonmetal atoms / metalloid

• unshared pairs - pais of electrons that do not participate in bonding and belong to only one atom (lone pairs) - 2 red dots

• bonding pairs - pairs of electrons being shared between two atoms thus creating a covalent bond, usually shown by lines between atoms - 2 red dots with line
