Apostrophes
Show possession
Singular ending in an s —> apostrophe goes after the s
Plurals ending in s —> apostrophe goes after the s
Irregular plurals —> apostrophe goes at the end followed by an s
Plural individuals (“Maria’s and Omar’s cats are both beautiful”)
Shared possession (“Robert and Natalie’s cat is ugly”)
Form Contractions
Go in the middle of the two words being contracted
Pronouns on the SAT
Find the antecedent (The noun that the pronoun is replacing) and match it
Modifiers
Whatever or whoever is described before the comma must come right after the comma
Verbs
Check if there’s an odd verb out first in the answers
Most questions are subject verb agreement or verb tense
Will usually have an ‘odd verb out’ where one is singular when the others are plural or vice versa
That is the answer
Check tense and infinitive use questions when there isn’t an ‘odd verb out’
Check whether it’s past present or future tense and eliminate. Then figure out the type (perfect, simple)
If a verb can go with either plural or singular, it is a tense question not agreement
Check if the verbs are happening simultaneously or not
Don’t ignore dates
